YANABA

Knitting has been handed down from generation to generation by human hands,
using materials and knitting techniques suited to various climates and geographical features and conditions of each region. As the world climate has changed over the years, knitting has also changed little-by-little.

I started the “YANABA” brand in order to produce sweaters that are knitted by hand with care, one by one, searching for knitwear unique to Japan; suited to the land, environment, and climates of my home country.

Recently, a device has been developed to knit sweaters with almost no human intervention in the process. The developement of this innovative technology has resulted in the mass production of knitwear made of cheap materials which are worn and quickly discarded, only to be purchased again the following year, resulting in a mass-consumption supply chain. This has placed a heavy burden on the global environment. As environmental issues become more serious today, we must rethink our approach to how we consume clothing.
Hand knitting and home machines are powered by human hands and
do not require the massive consumption of materials, but rather allow for making only what is needed to be produced.
